Handpainted Buddhist Ritual Torma Set
This hand-painted torma set features intricate craftsmanship and vibrant colors, embodying traditional Tibetan artistry. The set includes three distinct tormas (hidum, lama, and khando respectively), each meticulously detailed with symbolic elements such as lotuses, skulls, and auspicious designs. The vibrant colors, including deep reds, blues, and greens, contrast with the ornate floral and geometric patterns, emphasizing the significance of the torma offerings in Buddhist rituals. Mounted on tiered bases, these tormas evoke blessings and are perfect for placement in altars or shrines to symbolize offerings to deities.
The word "torma" in Tibetan has two parts. "Tor" means to "throw out," signifying the act of severing attachment to desires and cutting through emotional entanglements that cause suffering. Tormas, made from barley flour and other ingredients, are offered outside in Vajrayana practices as a gesture of generosity. The second syllable, "ma," is a feminine ending, symbolizing maternal care and nurturing. Together, torma represents both freeing oneself from attachment and radiating loving-kindness, much like a mother's love, to all sentient beings.
